Blackmagic Design Speed Editor Bluetooth Probleme unter Windows lösen

The Speed Editor from Blackmagic Design is a great extension for Davinci Resolve. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth connection under Windows is often a problem. I have found a solution for this.

I wouldn’t want to do without the Speed Editor from Blackmagic Design. Once you have internalised the modes in cut page mode and the possibilities of this great hardware, you can work much faster than with a keyboard and mouse. Especially when viewing extensive footage, rough editing and multi-cam editing, you can work very efficiently. You can find my test of the Blackmagic Speed Editor here: https://nachbelichtet.com/blackmagic-design-speed-editor-fuer-davinci-resolve-im-test/

The Speed Editor can be connected to the computer via USB-C. However, the Bluetooth mode is much more practical. However, this often causes problems, especially on Windows computers. I got my Speed Editor shortly after it was launched at the beginning of December 2020. Funnily enough, it worked perfectly with my Windows computer, which had a Bluetooth 5.0 BLE dongle. With the Resolve 17 updates, however, there were also some firmware updates for the Speed Editor and suddenly it no longer wanted to connect to my Windows computer via Bluetooth. On my Mac Mini M1, however, the Speed Editor continued to work perfectly and reliably.

As other Bluetooth devices continued to work with my Bluetooth 5.0 dongle, I assumed that there was a bug in the Speed Editor firmware. On the BMD forum, experiences varied: many Windows users, like me, complained about poor or no Bluetooth functionality, while some others seemed to have no problems. The Speed Editor also worked immediately with my company notebook from HP – but not with my workstation with Bluetooth dongle.

A new Bluetooth dongle and it works with the BMD Speed Editor under Windows

I set up Bluetooth again, deleted devices, placed the dongle right next to the controller, etc. None of this brought the desired success. The solution was finally a new Bluetooth 4.0 dongle, the TP-Link UB400 Nano USB Bluetooth 4.0 adapter dongle for 7.50 euros. Plugged in and the Speed Editor was immediately visible and usable.

If I had tried this straight away, I would have saved a lot of time analysing errors and possible solutions.
